Meet Ben!

Ben Nissen (he/him) is a New York-based marketing strategist and creative producer whose work has been seen on and off-Broadway, and in partner cities around the world.

With On the Rialto, he currently supports the marketing strategy efforts behind THE OUTSIDERS on Broadway, the DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: THE TWENTY-SIDED TAVERN experience, and various developmental projects including Stephen Schwartz’s highly-anticipated new musical, THE QUEEN OF VERSAILLES, starring Kristin Chenoweth.

Ben made his Broadway debut as a Producing Assistant at Junkyard Dog Productions and has since played a key role in the marketing efforts for the Broadway productions of COME FROM AWAY, DIANA, HARRY CONNICK JR - A CELEBRATION OF COLE PORTER, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, THE PROM, and Live Nation’s IN RESIDENCE ON BROADWAY series.

Since its inception in 2018, Ben has served as the Associate Artistic Director for the J2 Spotlight Musical Theater Company, where he has advised on the ticketing and marketing strategy for all it’s Off-Broadway revivals including A CLASS ACT (directed by Robert W. Schneider) and THE GOODBYE GIRL (directed by David Zippel). Ben made his co-producing debut with Joe Iconis’ BROADWAY BOUNTY HUNTER at the Greenwich House Theater, and worked on several other Off-Broadway productions including PUFFS (New World Stages), PARTY FACE (New York City Center), PLAYING HOT (Theater 511), and THE WRONG BOX (Theater for the New City).

On the road, Ben has worked on various touring productions including ANASTASIA, COME FROM AWAY, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, MOULIN ROUGE!, AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, and THE PROM. As a freelance press representative with Bond Theatrical, he has supported events in partner cities around North America for clients including but not limited to & JULIET, A BEAUTIFUL NOISE, COMPANY, GIRL FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY, JAGGED LITTLE PILL, LES MISERABLES, MJ, MOULIN ROUGE!, SHUCKED, SIX, TINA, and THE WIZ.

Passionate about supporting the development of emerging artists and new work, Ben is an adjunct lecturer at the Penn State School of Theatre, sits on the School of Theatre Alumni Board, and serves as the Founding Executive Director for the Jeffrey L. Nissen Arts Education and Development Fund, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the future of the arts. He sits on the Board of Directors for The Pavilion Project and has worked with organizations such as Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, New York Stage and Film, MT Shorts, Pipeline Theatre Company, Mount Union University, and the NU Musicals Festival.

As an Original Programming Producer at 54 Below, he has worked on over 100 musicals-in-concert and events such as THE WAY BACK TO THURSDAY, CUT FROM AWAY (feat. Olivier Award® winning writers David Hein and Irene Sankoff), and numerous musical artist tribute concerts with performers including Academy Award® winner Ariana DeBose, Tony Award® winner Lauren Patten, and singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp.

Off-stage, Ben is a versatile consultant in production, marketing, and operations, working with clients across diverse industries including digital media, real estate, construction, wellness, and human resources. He has advised on various web series, short films, virtual events and podcasts including Sharrod Williams’ NEIGHBORS, musical limited series THE WORST PEOPLE YOU KNOW, and WEST SIDE STORIES, a benefit concert for the Hudson Guild featuring two-time Tony Award® winner Chita Rivera. He also serves as a freelance Operations Director for various marketing agencies including Marathon Digital and Relay Influence. At Pollen, a London-based technology and experiences company, he led the Global Marketing Operations function, working with a wide variety of talent including Justin Bieber, J Balvin, and Kygo. He currently manages an agile digital marketing team at Graebel.

Ben is a proud graduate of Penn State University where he holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theatre and was the recipient of the Robert Reifsneider Award for Musical Theatre. He received his Master of Science from the University of Alabama’s Manderson Graduate School of Business, concentrating in Digital and Social Media and Marketing Analytics, and holds a post-graduate certificate in Disruptive Strategy from the Harvard School of Business Online. Ben is an Associate Member of the Society of Stage Directors and Choreographers and a published contributing author in Robert W. Schneider and Shannon Agnew’s Fifty Key Stage Musicals, available on Amazon.
